Lenovo Miix2: 8 Inch Tablet Announced with Windows 8.1 and Intel Bay Trail-T SoC
Chinese major Lenovo has announced a new 8-inch tablet powered by
Windows 8.1 OS. The said tablet device will hit US market sometime later
this month. Priced at $299 (Rs. 18,200), the Lenovo Miix 2 features
Intel's latest quad-core Bay Trail chipset.
The device will take advantage of full blown desktop PC environment,
thanks to Microsoft's Windows 8.1. The tablet will ship with a Full
version of MS Office Home and Student 2013 license. It also has a
stylus, making the device productive in nature. The Miix2 can be used in
both commercial as well as non-commercial environments.
The Lenovo Miix2 has an 8-inch display having a resolution of 1280 x 800
pixels. The internal specifications are not bad at all nor the retail
price. Under the hood, you will notice a " Intel Bay Trail-T Quad Core
processor, based on Intel AtomTM S architecture and integrated Intel HD
Graphics (Gen7) with Clear Video HD technology for smooth video
performance".
The device should be seen as a competitor to Qualcomm Snapdragon
800 SoC ducked tablets. Other specifications include: 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM,
5-megapixel rear-facing and a 2-megepixel front-facing camera,
32GB/64GB of ROM (expandable up to a microSD card slot). The tablet
device measures 8.1mm in terms of thickness and weighs 350 grams.
"Many users want the convenience of a smaller screen tablet, but do not
want to lose the performance and convenience of a powerful, quad core
Windows 8.1 device. With the Lenovo Miix2 8-inch, users can take
advantage of a small, light form factor without sacrificing
performance," said Bai Peng, vice president and general manager,
notebook business unit, Lenovo Business Group. "The Lenovo Miix2 8-inch
is a great example of how thoughtful design can deliver the best of both
worlds."
In an optional package, consumers can purchase a cover for the tablet.
It will be priced at $349( Rs 21,410). Lenovo says that the tablet can
run up to 7 hours on a single battery charge. The device will be
available in 64GB capacity too.
As mentioned above, Lenovo Miix2 will take advantage of Windows 8.1.
Consumers can download Windows 8.1, starting today. It's a free update,
and will bring back the iconic start button back. Users need to download
